The Milwaukee 49-94-5020 is a 5 in. x 1/4 in. x 7/8 in. Type 27 Grinding Wheel — a heavy-duty depressed-center grinding wheel for use with 5 in. angle grinders for surface grinding, weld dressing, and metal preparation on steel and ferrous metal. The 5 in. diameter provides more surface coverage per pass than the compact 4-1/2 in. format while remaining lighter and more maneuverable than 6 in. and larger grinder configurations — making it practical for sustained overhead work, tight fabrication spaces, and structural steel surface preparation where the 5 in. format's balance of coverage and compactness is preferred. The 1/4 in. heavy-duty thickness provides the abrasive mass for the longest wheel life in the most aggressive 5 in. grinder applications — sustained weld bead grinding, heavy scale removal, and aggressive stock removal from thick structural steel where wheel consumption at the thinner 1/8 in. specification would be impractically high for production grinding operations.
Aluminum oxide abrasive provides the cutting aggressiveness and controlled wear rate appropriate for steel and ferrous metal grinding. The Type 27 depressed-center profile positions the grinding face below the mounting hub for flat-surface grinding at the productive low approach angle on structural steel plates, weldments, and fabricated assemblies. The 7/8 in. arbor bore fits standard 5 in. angle grinder spindles for direct mounting. Always inspect wheels for cracks before mounting, operate within the wheel's rated RPM with the grinder's guard installed, and use appropriate face shield and PPE during all grinding operations.
