The Milwaukee 49-94-4580 is a 4-1/2 in. x 1/4 in. x 7/8 in. Type 27 Grinding Wheel for use with 4-1/2 in. angle grinders — a heavy-duty depressed-center aluminum oxide grinding wheel for aggressive material removal, weld dressing, and surface preparation on steel and ferrous metal. The 1/4 in. heavy-duty thickness provides a larger abrasive mass than the standard 1/8 in. grinding wheel for longer wheel life in the most demanding grinding applications — sustained heavy weld bead removal, large bevel grinding on thick plate, and aggressive stock removal where the thinner wheel would wear too quickly for economical production grinding. Aluminum oxide abrasive provides the cutting aggressiveness and controlled wear rate appropriate for ferrous metal grinding applications where maintaining a fresh, sharp abrasive surface throughout the grinding cycle produces consistent material removal rate.
The Type 27 depressed-center profile positions the grinding face below the mounting hub for flat-surface grinding at the productive low approach angle on structural steel plates, weldments, and fabricated assemblies. The 7/8 in. arbor bore fits standard 4-1/2 in. angle grinder spindles with the standard arbor washer for direct mounting. The 1/4 in. heavy-duty specification is the right choice for the heaviest 4-1/2 in. grinder applications — for lighter general grinding where wheel economy at moderate use is more important, the 1/8 in. standard-thickness version (49-94-4525) provides adequate service life at lower per-wheel cost.
