Product Description
Milwaukee 9/16-18 NF 1-7/16 in. Hex Threading Die
Model Number: 49-57-5368
The Milwaukee 49-57-5368 is a 9/16-18 NF 1-7/16 in. Hex Threading Die, precision machined for creating or repairing clean, accurate external threads. A threading die cuts external threads onto round stock, bolts, and rod, and this one produces a 9/16-18 thread: a 9/16 in. nominal diameter with 18 threads per inch in the NF (National Fine) series, cutting a right-hand thread. It is made from high carbon steel for durability and finished with a black oxide coating for corrosion resistance, and the size is laser-etched into the body for long-lasting, clear markings. A clearly labeled starting side makes it easy to orient the die correctly and start the thread straight, which is where cross-threading and wasted stock usually happen.
This is a large-format 1-7/16 in. hex die, larger than the 1 in. hex dies used for the smaller sizes. The 1-7/16 in. hex shape is designed for use with 1-7/16 in. die stocks or a wrench, which give the leverage needed to cut a thread this size. It does not fit the Milwaukee Hex-LOK 2-in-1 Threading Handle, which accepts only the 1 in. hex dies, so this die requires a 1-7/16 in. die stock or an appropriately sized wrench instead. It is designed for cutting threads in the most common metal materials, including brass, aluminum, mild steel, and more, and for the cleanest threads and longest die life Milwaukee recommends using it with cutting fluid. Because it creates and repairs threads, it is equally at home making a new thread on bar stock or chasing and cleaning up a damaged 9/16-18 thread in the field.
When ordering, match the thread count exactly. Milwaukee offers two 9/16 in. dies in this line, this 9/16-18 NF fine-thread die (49-57-5368) and a separate 9/16-12 NC coarse-thread die (49-57-5365), so order by the exact thread count your application requires rather than by diameter alone. The NF fine thread has 18 threads per inch, while the NC coarse thread has 12, and the two are not interchangeable. This die is sold individually as a single piece and is a hand threading tool, not a power tool accessory, so it is intended for use in a hand-operated die stock or with a wrench. The 1-7/16 in. die stock and cutting fluid are sold separately. For users who need a range of sizes, this same die is also offered as part of Milwaukee's SAE tap and die sets.
