The Milwaukee 49-57-5345 is an M8-1.00 mm 1 in. Hex Threading Die, precision machined for creating or repairing clean, accurate external threads. A threading die cuts external threads onto round stock, bolts, and rod, and this one produces an M8 thread with a 1.00 mm pitch, the fine pitch for 8 mm fasteners, cutting a right-hand thread. It is made from high carbon steel for durability and finished with a black oxide coating for corrosion resistance, and the size is laser-etched into the body for long-lasting, clear markings. A clearly labeled starting side makes it easy to orient the die correctly and start the thread straight, which is where cross-threading and wasted stock usually happen.
This is a 1 in. hex die, so instead of the round body of a traditional die it has a 1 in. hex outer shape that locks positively into a hex die stock. When ordering, match the thread pitch exactly. Milwaukee offers two M8 dies in this line, this M8-1.00 mm fine-pitch die (49-57-5345) and a separate M8-1.25 mm coarse-pitch die (49-57-5343), so order by the exact pitch your application requires rather than by diameter alone. The fine 1.00 mm pitch and the standard coarse 1.25 mm pitch are not interchangeable, even though both are 8 mm in diameter. This die is sold individually as a single piece and is a hand threading tool, not a power tool accessory, so it is intended for use in a hand-operated die stock or threading handle.
