The Milwaukee 49-57-5344 is a 5/16-24 NF 1 in. Hex Threading Die, precision machined for creating or repairing clean, accurate external threads. A threading die cuts external threads onto round stock, bolts, and rod, and this one produces a 5/16-24 thread: a 5/16 in. nominal diameter with 24 threads per inch in the NF (National Fine) series, cutting a right-hand thread. It is made from high carbon steel for durability and finished with a black oxide coating for corrosion resistance, and the size is laser-etched into the body for long-lasting, clear markings. A clearly labeled starting side makes it easy to orient the die correctly and start the thread straight, which is where cross-threading and wasted stock usually happen.
This is a 1 in. hex die, so instead of the round body of a traditional die it has a 1 in. hex outer shape that locks positively into a hex die stock. Milwaukee offers two 5/16 in. dies in this line, this 5/16-24 NF fine-thread die (49-57-5344) and a separate 5/16-18 NC coarse-thread die (49-57-5342), so order by the exact thread count your application requires rather than by diameter alone. The NF fine thread has 24 threads per inch, while the NC coarse thread has 18, and the two are not interchangeable. This die is sold individually as a single piece and is a hand threading tool, not a power tool accessory, so it is intended for use in a hand-operated die stock or threading handle.
