Product Description
Milwaukee 2-1/4 in. Carbide Tipped Hole Saw
Model Number: 49-56-2253
The Milwaukee 49-56-2253 is a 2-1/4 in. Carbide Tipped Hole Saw for cutting clean holes through tile, ceramic, porcelain, fiber cement, cast iron, and stainless steel where standard bi-metal hole saw teeth dull immediately. The carbide tipped teeth provide cutting edge hardness and abrasion resistance that hard tile, fiber cement, and cast iron require for productive cutting — maintaining sharp, aggressive tooth geometry through many holes in these materials where HSS and bi-metal teeth would dull in the first few cuts. The 2-1/4 in. diameter serves standard plumbing pipe stub-out holes in tiled bathroom and kitchen walls, medium conduit penetrations through tile and fiber cement siding, and fixture mounting holes where this bore size matches the fitting or hardware being installed through hard surface materials.
For tile and ceramic applications, wet cutting with water is strongly recommended — water cooling extends the carbide tip service life, reduces thermal cracking risk in heat-sensitive glazed ceramic and porcelain tile, and suppresses respirable silica dust during the drilling operation. For fiber cement and cast iron applications, dry cutting is typical with appropriate PPE for the dust and debris generated. The carbide tipped specification on this hole saw is designed for the range of hard, abrasive materials that resist standard hole saw teeth — not for general wood and light metal applications where bi-metal hole saws provide better performance and economy. The hole saw mounts on a standard Milwaukee arbor for use with any drill.
See Milwaukee's complete carbide tipped and carbide grit hole saw lineup for all available sizes for hard and abrasive material hole sawing applications.
