Product Description
Milwaukee Tamper Plate 8 in. x 8 in.
Model Number: 48-62-4055
The Milwaukee 48-62-4055 is an 8 in. x 8 in. SDS Max Tamper Plate attachment for Milwaukee and compatible SDS Max demolition hammers — designed for compacting loose granular fill materials including dirt, sand, gravel, and crushed stone in confined trench, footing, and slab areas where conventional plate compactors, jumping jacks, and vibratory compactors cannot physically access. Effective compaction of fill material under concrete forms, around pipe and conduit installations in trenches, beneath footings, and in other tight construction areas is critical for preventing settlement, maintaining structural support, and achieving specified compaction density — the Milwaukee tamper plate converts the high-energy output of an SDS Max demolition hammer into downward compaction force applied across the full 8 x 8 in. plate footprint, providing effective compaction coverage in a single hammer-operated tool.
The 8 x 8 in. contact area provides a large compaction footprint per hammer strike, covering more ground area with each pass compared to smaller tamper attachments — an efficiency advantage when compacting fill in wider trench bottoms, around larger pipe installations, and under larger concrete form sections where maximizing coverage per strike reduces total compaction time. The tamper plate is forged from high-grade steel with the structural mass needed to deliver effective compaction force without flexing, deforming, or fracturing under the sustained high-impact hammering from professional SDS Max demolition hammers. Use with Milwaukee tamper shank 48-62-4060 as required for compatibility with specific SDS Max hammer models.
Available in a 5 in. x 5 in. version (48-62-4050) for narrower trench work and smaller access areas, and a 6 in. x 6 in. version (48-62-4051) as a middle-ground option between the two plate sizes for specific application requirements.
