Product Description
Milwaukee Tamper Plate 5 in. x 5 in. for SDS Max Demolition Hammers
Model Number: 48-62-3060
The Milwaukee 48-62-3060 is a 5 in. x 5 in. Tamper Plate — a drop-forged steel compaction attachment for Milwaukee SDS Max demolition hammers used for compacting soil, gravel, and fill material in confined trench excavations, footing bases, around underground utility installations, and in tight areas where the limited access prevents the use of plate compactors and jumping jacks. The 5 in. x 5 in. square plate provides a 25 square inch compaction face that distributes each hammer blow's impact energy across the material surface, driving fill material downward and compacting it progressively with each impact cycle. Proper fill compaction is a code requirement for buried utilities, underground conduit installations, foundation footings, and any buried structural element where inadequately compacted backfill would settle after installation and cause differential movement that damages the installed system or structure above.
The SDS Max demolition hammer's high impact energy and high blow rate per minute provides substantially more compaction energy per unit time than manual tamping with a hand tamper, making production-pace compaction in confined areas practical for electrical, plumbing, gas, and telecommunications installation crews who need to compact backfill quickly and efficiently to code requirements after completing underground utility installations. The tamper plate includes the replaceable shank (sold separately as 48-62-2097) that connects the plate to the Milwaukee demolition hammer's SDS Max tool holder — the shank is the service item that takes the most impact stress and is designed to be replaced independently when it wears without requiring the full tamper plate to be replaced. The 5 in. x 5 in. plate geometry fits the trench widths common in underground utility work while providing the compaction face area needed for effective fill densification per impact.
See Milwaukee's complete demolition hammer compaction and ground engagement tool lineup for the replaceable tamper shank (48-62-2097) and other ground engagement tools for demolition hammer applications.
