The Milwaukee 48-62-3015 is an 18 in. Flat Chisel with a 3/4 in. hex shank for use with professional electric chipping hammers and demolition hammers equipped with a 3/4 in. hex tool holder — the extended-length flat chisel for applications where the standard 12 in. chisel length leaves insufficient clearance between the hammer body and the work surface or where the additional reach of the 18 in. configuration is specifically required for the chisel work geometry. Common applications for the 18 in. extended-length flat chisel include floor-level and low-clearance chipping work where the hammer must be held at a low angle and the longer chisel provides the working geometry needed, breaking concrete in deep excavations where the hammer must reach down into the excavation from a standing position, and chipping applications where surrounding structure forces the hammer into an elevated position above the work area requiring additional chisel length to reach the target surface.
Milwaukee drop-forges this flat chisel from high-grade steel with heat-treated working areas for the structural integrity and blade geometry retention needed through sustained chipping hammer impact loading at the extended 18 in. length. The 3/4 in. hex shank provides the positive anti-rotation locking in the hammer's tool holder that prevents the chisel from spinning under the lateral surface forces generated during flat-face chipping and channeling work. The extended shank length of the 18 in. chisel also provides additional leverage for prying and breaking at the chisel tip in some demolition applications where the longer moment arm increases the breaking force at the cutting edge.
