The Milwaukee 48-28-4006 is a 12 in. Selfeed Bit Extension — a precision-machined steel extension shaft that adds 12 in. of additional drilling reach to Milwaukee Selfeed bits, Ship Auger bits, and other Milwaukee boring bits that accept the standard extension interface, enabling drilling through structural assemblies, multiple framing members, and deep sections that exceed the reach of standard bit lengths without repositioning the drill setup. Extension bits are essential in wood-frame construction rough-in work whenever the drilling target is deeper than the standard bit length can reach in a single setup — common situations include drilling through double top plates where two or three framing members stacked vertically require more depth than a 6 in. or 6-1/2 in. bit can penetrate, drilling down through multiple floor system layers, and any application where the structural assembly thickness exceeds the standard bit length capacity.
The 12 in. extension provides a full foot of additional reach beyond the bit's standard length — for a standard 6 in. selfeed bit, the extension enables total drilling reach of approximately 18 in., sufficient for virtually all wood framing assemblies encountered in residential and commercial wood-frame construction. The extension uses a standard hex-drive coupling interface that connects to compatible Milwaukee bits with a positive-engagement hex socket connection that transfers the drill's torque and the bit's self-feed advance force to the extension shaft without slippage or wobble — maintaining accurate hole alignment through the extended reach that would be compromised by a loose or imprecise coupling connection.
