The Milwaukee 48-28-2020 is a 12 in. QUIK-LOK 3/8 in. Hex Extension — a 12 in. drive extension shaft in the 3/8 in. hex shank format with Milwaukee's QUIK-LOK quick-change bit interface for extending the reach of 3/8 in. hex shank bits and accessories when driving fasteners or drilling in deep, recessed, or hard-to-reach locations. The 3/8 in. hex shank is the intermediate hex size between the compact 1/4 in. standard driver hex and the heavy-duty 7/16 in. impact driver hex, used with medium-duty driver bits and drilling accessories that require the additional torque capacity of the larger 3/8 in. hex interface while maintaining broader driver compatibility than the 7/16 in. heavy-duty format. The QUIK-LOK interface accepts 3/8 in. hex shank bits with a push-in engagement and releases them with a collar pull for tool-free bit changes at the extended reach position without returning the extension to the driver's chuck for bit swaps.
The 12 in. extension adds a full foot of working reach beyond the driver chuck's natural position — enabling driving of fasteners into deep framing cavities, accessing screws inside enclosures, drilling through materials positioned beyond the driver's direct reach, and providing the clearance between the driver chuck and the work surface required when adjacent structure prevents the driver from being positioned close enough to the fastener location. The 3/8 in. hex format provides higher torque transmission capacity than the standard 1/4 in. hex extension for applications where the fastener driving loads exceed what the smaller format can transmit reliably without the bit slipping in the coupling under peak torque. The 12 in. length adds reach without the awkward handling that longer 18 in. extensions introduce for most driving applications.
