The Milwaukee 48-28-1040 is a 12 in. x 7/16 in. Universal QUIK-LOK Bit Extension — a 12 in. drive extension shaft in the 7/16 in. hex shank format with Milwaukee's QUIK-LOK quick-change bit interface for extending the reach of heavy-duty driver bits and accessories when driving fasteners or drilling in locations beyond the driver's natural working position. The 7/16 in. hex shank format is used with heavy-duty impact drivers and drills equipped with 7/16 in. hex collet chucks that provide higher torque transmission capacity than the standard 1/4 in. hex for large-format fasteners and high-force driving applications where the 1/4 in. hex would slip or fail under peak driving loads. The QUIK-LOK interface accepts 7/16 in. hex shank bits with a tool-free push-in engagement and collar-pull release for fast bit changes at the extended 12 in. position without removing the extension from the driver chuck.
The 12 in. length adds a full foot of working reach beyond the driver chuck for accessing fasteners recessed in framing cavities, reaching through structural assemblies, driving fasteners in applications where clearance between the driver chuck and surrounding structure requires the extended length, and any situation where the fastener is located at a distance that standard bits directly in the chuck cannot reach. The 7/16 in. hex format's higher torque capacity makes the 12 in. extension appropriate for high-torque fastening where driving forces would exceed the capacity of a 1/4 in. hex extension at the same working length. The compact 12 in. length provides the right balance of reach and handling stability for most heavy-duty confined-space driving applications.
