The Milwaukee 48-27-0371 is a 3/8 in. x 6 in. Flat Boring Bit — a small-diameter flat boring bit for drilling clean, precise holes through wood framing, dimensional lumber, plywood, and wood composites for the smallest wire routing, small fastener applications, and specialty installations requiring a 3/8 in. bore through wood. At 3/8 in. diameter, this is one of the smallest standard flat boring bit sizes — used for low-voltage wire routing where a minimal-size hole preserves the most structural integrity of the framing member, for specific small pilot holes in wood that receive specialty hardware, and for applications where a single-conductor or small wire bundle needs a precise drilled passage through wood without the larger bore of ship auger bits. The flat boring geometry produces holes with flat bottoms, smooth cylindrical sidewalls, and clean entry and exit faces — the outer spur scores the perimeter to prevent surface tear-out, and the flat cutting face shears wood fiber cleanly within the scored circle for a clean exit face on the far side of the member.
Heat-treated high carbon steel provides the cutting edge hardness for clean, consistent holes through the drilling demands of rough-in and construction work. The self-centering tip prevents bit walking and positions the hole accurately at the marked center — important for precise hole placement in fire-rated assemblies and layout-specified locations.
