The 1/4 in. wider tape profile provides increased column strength for pushing through the longer horizontal runs, multiple bends, and larger conduit sizes of commercial electrical work compared to the narrower 1/8 in. residential specification — the wider tape resists the buckling and bunching that narrower tapes experience when being pushed through long conduit runs with multiple direction changes.
