Product Description
Milwaukee Centering Bit for One-Piece SDS Max and Spline Core Bits
Model Number: 48-20-5495
The Milwaukee 48-20-5495 is a Centering Bit for use with Milwaukee SDS Max and Spline One-Piece Core Bits — a precision steel pilot bit that inserts through the center of the core bit to provide an accurate centering point for the initial engagement phase of large-diameter one-piece core drilling on concrete and masonry surfaces. One-piece core bits integrate the diamond segment barrel and the mounting shank into a single machined body, and at the large diameters that SDS Max and Spline core systems accommodate, accurate hole positioning during the initial bit contact with the concrete surface is critical — the centering bit establishes the bit's rotational axis at the precisely marked hole center before the diamond segments begin cutting, preventing the lateral drift and walking that occurs when a large spinning core bit's diamond segment ring first contacts hard concrete without a centering guide.
The SDS Max and Spline platforms are used for the largest-diameter core drilling accessible with portable rotary hammers — applications including major mechanical penetrations, structural post sleeves, and large utility openings in concrete and masonry construction where positional accuracy determines whether the installed system fits correctly and whether the structural integrity of the concrete surrounding the penetration is maintained within the minimum edge distance from the hole. The centering bit is removed from the core bit after the diamond segment ring has established its cutting kerf in the concrete surface — typically after the first 1/2 in. to 1 in. of depth has been cut and the segments are fully guiding the bit's position through their kerf engagement. Compatible with Milwaukee SDS Max and Spline one-piece core bits that use this centering interface specification.
See Milwaukee's complete SDS Max and Spline core drilling accessory lineup for all compatible centering bits, extensions, and adapters for large-diameter core drilling applications.
