The Milwaukee 48-17-3060 is a 6 in. Diamond Premium Wet Core Bit — the largest size in Milwaukee's standard premium wet core bit lineup, designed for the largest conduit bundle sleeves, major mechanical equipment penetrations, large HVAC ductwork sleeves, and other large-bore structural openings through concrete where the 6 in. bore is specified for the conduit system, mechanical assembly, or structural access requirement. Milwaukee Diamond Premium Wet Core Bits use only premium-grade diamonds in an engineered segment bond that maintains optimal diamond exposure throughout the segment's service life, resisting the glazing that causes standard bits to slow progressively in hard and aggregate-rich commercial concrete. At 6 in. diameter, the premium segment specification delivers the most significant performance advantage over standard bits — the large cutting face area generates the highest total heat during drilling, and the premium bond formulation's resistance to glazing under these thermal conditions keeps cutting speed more consistent throughout the bit's life than standard bonds allow.
Wet cutting with abundant, continuous water supply is critical at 6 in. diameter — the heat generated at the cutting interface at this large bore is substantial, requiring aggressive water cooling throughout the drilling operation to prevent segment glazing and potential thermal damage. Water simultaneously cools the segments, flushes the large volume of concrete slurry from the hole interior, lubricates the cutting interface, and suppresses crystalline silica dust for OSHA compliance. At 6 in., the volume of slurry generated per inch of depth is substantial — adequate water flow to maintain slurry evacuation is as important as cooling for maintaining productive drilling speed throughout the hole.
