The Milwaukee 48-17-3050 is a 5 in. Diamond Premium Wet Core Bit for large-diameter core drilling through cured and reinforced concrete in commercial and industrial construction applications. Milwaukee Diamond Premium Wet Core Bits use only premium-grade diamonds in an engineered segment bond that delivers faster cutting speed and longer segment life than standard-grade core bits in demanding concrete drilling conditions — the premium segment bond formulation maintains optimal diamond exposure throughout the segment's life, resisting the glazing that causes standard bits to slow progressively in hard aggregate concrete. The 5 in. diameter serves major mechanical and utility penetrations including large conduit bundle sleeves, fire suppression main distribution piping, large-diameter HVAC penetrations, and mechanical equipment connections through concrete floor and wall sections where the bore must accommodate the full outer diameter of large-format fittings and conduit assemblies.
Wet cutting with continuous water supply is essential at this large diameter — the heat generated at the 5 in. cutting face during core drilling is substantial, and without water cooling the segments glaze over rapidly, losing cutting effectiveness and requiring segment dressing or premature bit replacement. Water simultaneously cools the segments, flushes concrete slurry, lubricates the cutting interface, and suppresses crystalline silica dust for OSHA compliance. Core barrel extensions are available separately for penetrations through wall and floor sections where the standard barrel depth is insufficient for a full through-penetration.
