The Milwaukee 48-13-1003 is a 1 in. x 6 in. Ship Auger Bit with a 7/16 in. hex shank — a standard 1 in. self-feed ship auger for drilling through framing lumber and wood in electrical, plumbing, and mechanical rough-in applications, featuring the 7/16 in. hex shank format for compatibility with heavy-duty drills, right-angle drills, and drill/drivers equipped with a 7/16 in. hex collet chuck rather than the standard SDS+ or keyless chuck formats. The 7/16 in. hex shank is used on Milwaukee's high-torque right-angle drills (Hole Hawg and Hole-Shooter models) and other high-torque drill platforms that use this larger hex interface for the secure drive engagement needed when running large-diameter boring bits that generate the high torque loads that 1 in. hole drilling requires from the drill motor. The hex shank's anti-rotation geometry prevents the bit from spinning in the chuck under the high reactive torque of large-bore drilling in dense wood materials.
The 1 in. diameter provides the correct bore for 3/4 in. EMT and IMC conduit, 3/4 in. flexible conduit systems, and medium-diameter plumbing rough-in penetrations that are among the most commonly drilled sizes in commercial electrical and plumbing rough-in work. Milwaukee's through-center cutting design provides improved durability when the bit contacts embedded nails and fasteners in existing structures, and the self-feed screw tip automatically advances the bit through wood under its own rotational force for reduced operator fatigue during high-volume overhead and horizontal rough-in drilling. Non-stick coated flutes maintain fast chip ejection throughout the bore depth. The 6 in. working length handles standard single-member framing dimensions in typical stud, joist, and rafter sizes.
