Milwaukee Magnet Control Knob
Model Number: 43-98-0049
The Milwaukee 43-98-0049 is a genuine OEM Magnet Control Knob for the 2788-20 M18 FUEL 1-1/2 in. Linemen Magnetic Drill. The magnet control knob is the control the operator uses to engage and release the drill's magnet: the magnetic base is what holds the drill firmly to a steel beam or plate so the operator can drill accurately and safely, including in vertical and overhead positions, and the knob is how that magnetic hold is set and released. A secure magnetic hold is what keeps the drill from shifting under cutting load, so the control that engages it has to work positively. Because it is handled on every setup and takedown, the knob can crack, wear, or loosen over time. Replacing it with the genuine Milwaukee OEM knob restores positive, reliable control of the magnet, where an off-spec knob may not fit the shaft or engage the magnet correctly.
This magnet control knob is identified as the Magnet Control Knob, Figure 126, on the Milwaukee service parts list for the 2788-20 M18 FUEL Linemen Magnetic Drill. Milwaukee changed this knob by construction on the 2788-20: the later construction, starting serial G57B, uses this part, 43-98-0049, on revised bulletin 54-46-0421, while the earlier construction, serial G57A, uses 43-98-0047 on bulletin 54-46-0420. The companion 2787-20 M18 FUEL Magnetic Drill also uses the earlier 43-98-0047. Because of this split, and because Milwaukee specifies service parts by serial number as well as catalog number, verify your catalog and serial number against the official Milwaukee service parts diagram before ordering, so you order the correct magnet control knob for your drill's construction. Do not disassemble the magnetic base beyond the points Milwaukee specifies.
