The Milwaukee 43-98-0046 is a genuine OEM Fence Lock Knob for the 2733-20 M18 FUEL 7-1/4 in. Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw. On a dual bevel miter saw the sliding fence has to move outboard to clear the blade and motor arm when the head is tipped into a bevel cut, then slide back inboard and lock down to support the workpiece for square and miter cuts, and the fence lock knob is what holds that setting. When the knob clamps correctly the fence stays exactly where the operator set it through repeated cuts, which is what keeps the saw cutting true. When the knob is stripped, cracked at the threaded insert, or missing, the fence can creep under the pressure of a workpiece pushed against it, and cuts drift out of square in a way that looks like a calibration problem but is really a worn knob. Replacing it with the genuine Milwaukee OEM knob restores positive fence clamping and the correct thread and grip, where an off-spec knob may not hold the fence or thread correctly.
This fence lock knob is identified as the Fence Lock Knob, Figure 13, in the Base Assembly section of the Milwaukee service parts list for the 2733-20 M18 FUEL 7-1/4 in. Miter Saw, serial J04A, bulletin 54-40-2750. The saw uses two of them, one for each sliding fence, and the same part number serves both the left and right fence positions, so order two if you are replacing both.
