The Milwaukee 43-98-0041 is a genuine OEM Fence Lock Knob for the 2734-20 M18 FUEL 10 in. Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw. This is the threaded clamping knob that locks the upper sliding fence sections in position on the saw base. On a dual bevel miter saw the upper fence must slide outboard to clear the blade and the motor arm when the head is tipped into a bevel cut, then slide back inboard and lock down to provide full workpiece support for square and miter cuts. The fence lock knob is what holds that setting. When the knob is working correctly the fence stays exactly where the operator set it through repeated cuts, which is what keeps the saw cutting accurately. When the knob is stripped, cracked at the insert, or missing, the fence creeps under the pressure of a workpiece being pushed against it, and the result is cuts that drift out of square in a way that looks like a saw calibration problem but is not. These knobs are among the most commonly damaged parts on any jobsite miter saw because they protrude from the base, take direct impact when the saw is loaded into a truck or dropped off a stand, and are frequently overtightened by hand until the threaded insert spins free of the plastic body.
