The Milwaukee 42-92-2001 is a genuine OEM Base Insert for the 2737-20 and 2737B-20 M18 FUEL Jig Saws. The base insert fits into the jig saw's base, or shoe, around the blade opening, closing up the slot right at the blade so the workpiece surface is supported close to the cut. That close support reduces splintering and tear-out along the cut edge and helps keep the base riding smoothly on the material. Because the insert sits at the blade and is in contact with the workpiece on every cut, it wears, chips, or breaks over time, and a worn or missing base insert leaves a wider opening at the blade, which lets the material splinter and can let the base mark or drag. Replacing it with the genuine Milwaukee OEM insert restores the close blade support and clean cut edge, where an off-spec insert may not fit the base or support the cut correctly.
This base insert is identified as the Base Insert, Figure 67 on the 2737-20 D-handle jig saw (bulletin 54-40-2800) and Figure 71 on the 2737B-20 barrel-grip jig saw (bulletin 54-40-2805). It fits the saw's base assembly (28-06-6001) and works with the base cover (31-15-0693), which are separate items. Because it is a wear item at the blade, keep a spare on hand for clean cutting.
