Milwaukee Lower Guard Lever
Model Number: 31-52-0041
The Milwaukee 31-52-0041 is a genuine OEM Lower Guard Lever for the 6370-20 (120V) and 6370-59A (220-240V) 8 in. Metal Cutting Saws. The lower guard lever is the retraction lever the operator uses to manually pull back the saw's spring-loaded lower guard, for example to start a cut or clear waste. The 6370 was the first corded metal cutting saw built with a lower guard retraction lever, and the lever is placed next to the side handle so the operator keeps both hands on the saw through the cut. Because the lever is handled on every manual retraction and takes grip and spring load in a hot, chip-heavy environment, a cracked, worn, or broken lever makes the lower guard hard or unsafe to operate. Replacing it with the genuine Milwaukee OEM lever restores smooth, controlled guard retraction, where an off-spec or broken lever may not grip the guard mechanism or hold up to use. The lower guard is a critical safety component, so a lever that prevents it from being controlled should be replaced right away.
This lower guard lever is identified as the Lower Guard Lever, Figure 16, on the Milwaukee service parts list for the 6370-20 8 in. Metal Cutting Saw, serial A35C and A35D, bulletin 54-40-1628, and it also serves the 230V 6370-59A version of this saw (the figure appears as 36 on some diagram revisions). Important: the 6370 went through a design change, a serial break from C to D, and the saw uses one of two different lower guard levers depending on its construction, this 31-52-0041 or the companion 31-52-0040; confirm your saw's serial and construction before ordering so you get the correct lever. On assembly, the lever's textured gripping surface is oriented parallel, within about 20 degrees, to the back edge of the front handle, and the lower guard should be functionally checked afterward by retracting it fully, releasing the lever, and confirming the guard returns briskly. Because Milwaukee specifies service parts by serial number as well as catalog number, verify your catalog and serial number against the official Milwaukee service parts diagram before ordering, since running production changes can alter part compatibility within the same catalog number.
