Milwaukee 120V Armature Assembly
Model Number: 16-70-1016
The Milwaukee 16-70-1016 is a genuine OEM 120V Armature Assembly for the 6370-20 8 in. Metal Cutting Saw. The armature is the rotating core of the saw's 120V brushed motor: its windings and commutator, driven by the carbon brushes and the field, turn electrical power into the rotation that drives the blade through the gearcase. This assembly is supplied with its two ball bearings pressed on, ready to install. Because the armature carries the full motor load and spins at high speed, it wears over the tool's life, and a shorted or open winding, a worn or burned commutator, or failed bearings show up as a saw that runs weak, sparks heavily at the brushes, overheats, or will not run. Replacing it with the genuine Milwaukee OEM armature assembly restores full motor output and smooth rotation, where an off-spec armature may not match the field and brushes or balance correctly at speed.
This armature is identified as the 120V Service Armature Assembly, Figure 9, on the Milwaukee service parts list for the 6370-20 8 in. Metal Cutting Saw, serial A35D, bulletin 54-40-1628. As an assembly it includes the armature with its two ball bearings, the fan-end and gear-end bearings (02-04-0847 and 02-04-1850). It is matched to the saw's 120V service field (18-70-1016) and carbon brushes (22-18-1075), which are separate items, and worn brushes should be replaced along with the armature. Note two things: this is the 120V armature for the 6370-20, not the 230V 6370-59A or 59B, which use a different armature; and the 6370-20 was built in a C and a D construction, so confirm your saw's construction and serial before ordering, since the C construction uses a different service parts list (bulletin 54-40-1627). Because Milwaukee specifies service parts by serial number as well as catalog number, verify your catalog and serial number against the official Milwaukee service parts diagram before ordering, since running production changes can alter part compatibility within the same catalog number.
