Milwaukee Gear Case Assembly
Model Number: 14-30-0162
The Milwaukee 14-30-0162 is a genuine OEM Gear Case Assembly for the 2980-20 M18 FUEL HP Grinder with Paddle Switch and Lock-Off. The gear case assembly is the housing and gear unit that encloses the gear reduction between the motor pinion and the grinder spindle, supporting the gears and bearings in their correct positions and transmitting motor rotation to the spindle at the correct speed and torque. It mounts to the front of the grinder and carries the spindle, so it is a hard-working part that runs under load and builds heat during grinding. A worn, noisy, or damaged gear case that is causing grinding noise, roughness, vibration, or loss of drive at the spindle requires replacement to restore proper operation.
This gear case assembly is identified as Figure 12 on Milwaukee service bulletin 54-38-2900, and it is used on the 2980-20 M18 FUEL HP Grinder with Paddle Switch and Lock-Off as well as the 2981-20 trigger-switch version of the same grinder. It works together with the 5/8 in.-11 spindle hub assembly, the pinion gear, and the front armature bearing and bearing retainer, so inspect those components when servicing the gear case and refer to the parts diagram for their part numbers. When servicing, 90 to 95 percent of the old grease should be removed and the gears thoroughly re-greased, and note that the front gear case assembly must be removed before a new electronics assembly can be installed. Because Milwaukee specifies service parts by serial number as well as catalog number, verify your catalog and serial number against the official Milwaukee service parts diagram before ordering, since running production changes can alter part compatibility within the same catalog number.

Please note: several of the screw holes in this gear case assembly are unthreaded by design. They are intended for self-tapping (thread-forming) screws that cut their own threads as they are driven in, so these holes arrive without pre-cut threads. Unthreaded holes on this assembly are normal and are NOT a defect or a manufacturing error. Use the correct self-tapping screws shown in the tool's parts diagram and drive them into the original hole locations so the threads form correctly. The spindle hub, pinion gear, bearing, grease, and grinder are NOT included. Always verify by serial number using Milwaukee's online parts lookup before ordering.
