Milwaukee Gear Case Assembly
Model Number: 14-30-0083
The Milwaukee 14-30-0083 is a genuine OEM Gear Case Assembly for the 6141-30, 6141-31, 6142-30, and 6142-31 11 Amp 4-1/2 in. compact angle grinders with paddle switch. The gear case assembly is the housing and gear unit that encloses the gear reduction between the motor pinion and the spindle, supporting the gears and bearings in their correct positions and transmitting motor rotation to the grinder spindle at the correct speed and torque. It mounts to the front of the grinder and carries the spindle, and it is a wear item on a grinder because the gears and bearings run under load and build heat: a worn, noisy, or damaged gear case that causes grinding noise, roughness, or loss of drive requires replacement to restore proper operation. Milwaukee specifies Type Y grease (49-08-5270) for the gear case, and when servicing the gears 90 to 95 percent of the old grease should be removed and the gear teeth thoroughly re-greased.
This gear case assembly is identified as Figure 3 on the Milwaukee service bulletins for these grinders, and fitment is serial-number specific: the 14-30-0083 is used on later production revisions, while earlier revisions of the same grinders use the gear case assembly 14-30-0082. For example, the 6142-30 uses the 14-30-0082 on its earlier serial break and the 14-30-0083 on its later serial break, so the same catalog number can take either gear case depending on the serial number. Because of this, it is essential to verify your catalog number and serial number against the official Milwaukee service parts diagram before ordering, since ordering by catalog number alone can result in the wrong gear case. The spindle hub assembly, pinion, and related drive components are separate parts, so inspect them when servicing the gear case and refer to the parts diagram for their part numbers.

- (1) Milwaukee 14-30-0083 Gear Case Assembly
Please note: several of the screw holes in this gear case assembly are unthreaded by design. They are intended for self-tapping (thread-forming) screws that cut their own threads as they are driven in, so these holes arrive without pre-cut threads. Unthreaded holes on this assembly are normal and are NOT a defect or a manufacturing error. Use the correct self-tapping screws shown in the tool's parts diagram and drive them into the original hole locations so the threads form correctly. The spindle hub, pinion, grease, and grinder are NOT included. This is the later-revision gear case; earlier revisions use 14-30-0082, so always verify by serial number using Milwaukee's online parts lookup before ordering.
