The Milwaukee 48-52-5000 is a 4 in. Stringer Bead Wire Wheel in stainless steel for use with 4 in. and 4-1/2 in. angle grinders — a specialty wire wheel with a narrow wire contact configuration specifically designed for cleaning, removing scale, and preparing the narrow profile of stringer weld beads and other confined surface areas where a full-face wire wheel cannot direct cleaning action precisely into the tight geometry of the weld. The stringer bead wheel's narrow contact profile concentrates the wire action directly on the weld bead's surface and the heat-affected zone immediately adjacent to the weld, removing weld spatter, scale, oxide discoloration, and surface contamination from the bead and its immediate surroundings without excessive cleaning of the broad parent metal surface area on either side — the profile precision that stringer bead cleaning requires for weld inspection, painting preparation, and quality control purposes.
Stainless steel wire is the mandatory wire material specification for cleaning stainless steel welds and stainless steel base metal — carbon steel wire would deposit iron particles into the stainless steel surface that cause rust staining and compromise the corrosion-resistant properties that stainless steel is specified for.
